Coffs Harbour Attractions

Whatever brings to you to the Coffs Coast region, whether work or play, you'll find all the modern facilities, shops, resources and activities you'd expect from a major city, with the relaxed feel of a holiday destination.

Located halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, Coffs Harbour is a favourite holiday destination for anyone travelling the NSW coast. You’ll find plenty of things to do in and around Coffs Harbour.

As the first of Australia’s original “big” attractions, the Big Banana is worth a visit. You’ll have fun touring the plantation, and trying some of the best banana recipes you’ll ever taste.

Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve is a must-see, and is accessible by walking along the breakwater from the harbour, with the nature reserve protecting a significant Wedge-tailed Shearwater breeding site. The Muttonbird Island footpath also leads to a viewing platform where whales are often spotted between June and November. It is also an important Aboriginal place, harbouring stories of the Dreaming and a wealth of traditional resources.

For the nature-lover, there are many national parks, reserves and marine parks surrounding the city, including:

  • Bellinger River National Park (west of Bellingen in the Bellinger headwaters)
  • Bindarri National Park (20 km west of the city, near Ulong and Dairyville)
  • Bongil Bongil National Park (south of Sawtell)
  • Cascade National Park (north of Dorrigo)
  • Coffs Coast Regional Park (beachside reserves and parks along the Coffs Coast)

Visit Dolphin Marine Magic, a unique marine park where you can play with dolphins and be kissed by one of the friendly seals for free. This nationally award-winning park is open every day of the year and it has Marine Magic Presentations every day. Dolphin Marine Magic offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in the water with beautiful dolphins and seals. These animal encounters are extremely popular during the summer months, and advanced bookings are essential and can be made by phoning the park directly on 6659 1900.

The Coffs Harbour Butterfly House is home to more than 400 live Australian butterfly species and is open every day of the year. Walk among the butterflies in their fully enclosed environment, spend time with one of the informative guides and learn about the butterfly's life-cycle. If you are lucky, a butterfly may land on you. You may also want to try out the outdoor walled maze, consisting of a hunt for butterfly information and a coloured maze with varying degrees of difficulty.

Liquid Assets Adventure Company offers tours in Sea Kayaking, Surf Rafting, White-water Rafting and Surf Lessons. Warm waters and a rich variety of sea life make Coffs Coast an underwater paradise for scuba divers and snorkellers. Some excellent dive locations exist just a short boat ride away, where you’ll see beautiful corals and a wide variety of creatures. Arrange a trip with one of our local dive shops like Jetty Dive.

If you really want to take the plunge, try Coffs Skydivers where you can tandem skydive from 15,000 feet. It's the only beach landing skydive operation between Sydney and the Gold Coast.

The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is another great Coffs Harbour attraction located on John Champion Way, Coffs Harbour. Housed in a unique heritage listed RAAF underground WWII bunker converted to Australia's only dedicated black and white art gallery. The Gallery exhibits the third largest private collection of original cartoons in Australia and also houses the New South Wales State Forests Henry Kendall Collection of fine wood art. The Gallery is opened Monday to Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm, and can be contacted by calling 6651 7343.
